Marsha Norman Csehov nyomdokaiban jár, aki azt vallotta, hogy a modern dráma legnagyobb alkotásainak a hétköznapi élet triviális eseményeiből kell kiemelkedniük… Normant azonban stílusa, alkotóereje és szándékai alapján mégis elsősorban Eugene O’ Neill-lel kell összehasonlítani, mert ahogy felássa a rég eltemetett családi titkokat, ahogy felkutatja a szülők és gyermekek között feszülő eltéphetetlen szálakat, ahogy ide-oda csapong a keserűség és a szeretet megnyilvánulásai között kiderül, hogy a „Jóccakát, anya...” voltaképpen az „Utazás az éjszakában” tömör, gazdaságosabban megfogalmazott változata – írta Robert Brustein, amerikai színházi kritikus, Marsha Norman Jóccakát, anya… című Pulitzer-díjas darabjáról.
Ennél többet, karakteresebbet a rendező sem tud mondani. Talán annyit, hogy két színművésznő számára parádés játéklehetőséget ad ez a tragikomédia, a nézők számára pedig egy bizarr, gondolkodásra és érzelmi megnyilvánulásra is alkalmat adó estét.
