Örkény már-már abszurdba hajló művét méltán jellemzi egy kiragadott részlet: „…ha jön a vonat, akkor aláfeküdni, vagy felülni rá; az kettő!” A darab szereplői kacagtatóan, máshol torokszorítóan ismerik ezt fel, felénk, nézők felé is tükröt tartva.
