A kényszeres evő, szeretetre méltó, negyvenes Maureen nassol, hogy ne gondoljon bele a magányába, pizzákat rendel, mert szerinte a paradicsomszószban oldódik legjobban a bánat. De azért még ad egy utolsó esélyt a romantikának, amelyről már épp készül teljesen lemondani. Vakrandija lesz Joe-val, aki esetlen, de kedves... A randevújukat Maureen nővére, a szintén negyvenes Sheila és férje, Kyle szervezték, akiknek szintén vannak saját problémáik... Ők négyen centiről centire haladnak, hogy megküzdjenek a saját magányukkal, a saját függőségeikkel, a saját zavaraikkal.
