1963-ban Anglia legjobb hóhéra, Harry kivégez egy gyilkost, aki még az akasztófa alatt is ártatlanságát bizonygatja. Két évvel később, pontosan azon a napon, amikor az országban eltörlik a halálbüntetést, egy titokzatos idegen tűnik föl a kocsmában, amit a volt főhóhér és felesége működtet. Másnap eltűnik a tizenöt éves lányuk. Ki a titokzatos idegen? Mi köze van a kivégzett gyilkoshoz és Harry-hez? Talán semmi, talán nagyon is sok. A lánya életéért aggódó főhóhér mindenesetre kézbe veszi az ügyet.
Martin McDonagh ír származású dráma- és forgatókönyvíró, filmrendező, a kortárs angol színpad fenegyereke. Sajátos nyelvezetű fekete komédiáit nagy sikerrel játsszák Magyarországon is; legújabb darabját, a Hóhérokat, 2015-ben mutatták be Londonban.
