1944. június. 6-a. Normandia. Az a bizonyos partraszállás. A háború abszurditásában gépfegyversorozatok, légitámadás, robbanások mindenütt. Ebben a helyzetben semmi sem érheti váratlanul az embert. A lónyúzó mesternek és családjának azonban ma mégsem ez a legfőbb gondja. A Marie lányuk esküvőjére készülnek a lehető legalkalmatlanabb pillanatban. A sintér és családja - dacolva az élhetetlen környezettel, ami átírja az erkölcs és az általános értékrend szabályait- ragaszkodik megszokott életéhez. A lónyúzó rendületlenül viseli a háborút, boncolja az elhullott lovakat és szervezi az esküvőt, mígnem a családnak legnagyobb árulással kell szembenéznie.
