A négy főszereplő meséje boldogtalan szerelmekkel átszőve, a sekélyes kapcsolatokat vizsgálja, szól művészetről, művészi szabadságról és a tehetség témáját is vizsgálja. Hőseink mindannyian művészek: a fiatal és az érett színésznő, a kezdő és befutott író.
